| Thallus pale grey to greenish grey, uneven to weakly rugulose, rimose, 0.2–0.4 mm thick, corticate, esorediate. Apothecia sessile, constricted at the base, 0.8–2.0 mm diam., not confluent; disc dark cinnabar-red, epruinose; thalline margin usually well developed, weakly crenulate or ±undulate. Ascospores fusiform, 5–9-septate, 30–50 × 3–5 µm. Conidia bacilliform, 5–7 × 0.8–1.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC–, Pd+ yellow; disc K+ violet; containing atranorin, placodiolic acid (major) and haematommone (minor). |  |

| Rare on bark in mangroves of eastern Qld. This tropical and subtropical species also occurs in North, Central and South America, West and South Africa and India. | ||
