Haematomma accolens (Stirt.) Hillm.

  Thallus pale grey to greenish grey, uneven to weakly rugulose, rimose, 0.2–0.4 mm thick, corticate, esorediate. Apothecia sessile, constricted at the base, 0.8–2.0 mm diam., not confluent; disc dark cinnabar-red, epruinose; thalline margin usually well developed, weakly crenulate or ±undulate. Ascospores fusiform, 5–9-septate, 30–50 × 3–5 µm. Conidia bacilliform, 5–7 × 0.8–1.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC–, Pd+ yellow; disc K+ violet; containing atranorin, placodiolic acid (major) and haematommone (minor).
     
  Rare on bark in mangroves of eastern Qld. This tropical and subtropical species also occurs in North, Central and South America, West and South Africa and India.
